When referring to Taiwan, people often think of the magnificent and bustling capital, Taipei. However, Taiwan still has a hidden gem, which is Taoyuan. Not being exploited for too much tousism, Taoyuan still retains its wild character with majestic natural scene. Besides, this city also has many popular attractions, including Window on World Theme Park, Leofoo Village Theme Park, and Xpark Aquarium. Although not famous as other big cities like Taipei, Taichung, or Kaohsiung, Taoyuan is still a interesting tourist destination for those who love to explore. Here are some interesting experiences you can try when coming to Taoyuan:

Shihmen Reservoir

 

Shihmen Lake is famous destionation in Taoyuan City. This is also one of Taiwan's largest lakes. Not only possessing a beautiful and poetic landscape, Shihmen Lake is also an important source of water and electricity for entire Taoyuan City. Coming here, visitors will be overwhelmed by the majestic scenery of rolling mountains and immense lake surface. 

Daxi Old Street

One of the most famous attractions in Taoyuan which can't miss when coming here is Daxi Old Street. This old town was built when Taiwan was a Japanese colony. Coming here, you will feel like that you have returned to the past. The shops in Daxi old town are built in Baroque architectural style with extremely sophisticated decorative carvings. Daxi Old Street is alos considered as a snacks paradise in Taoyuan. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy delicious dishes here.

It is not vibrant as the big cities in Taiwan, however, this does not mean that Taoyuan is a boring city. There are still countless interesting activities for visitors to freely explore. Here are some interesting experience in Tao Yuan:

Explore Jhongli Xinming Night Market: It is not a very big night market but is just as lively as the other night markets in Taipei. There are straight rows of stalls in the middle of the road which is closed to traffic in the evening. There are various types of street foods including fried stinky tofu (must try), extra large sized fried chicken, barbecued squid, assorted noodles, fruits and bubble tea here. Besides stalls selling clothes, fashion and mobile phone accessories and toys, there are also game stalls that bring a carnival atmosphere to the place. It is worth a visit if you are staying in the vicinity.

Walking around Xiao Wulai: Xiao Wulai is suitable for tourists who love exploratory travel. Visitors will experience walking, climbing passes, and wading streams through difficult terrain. After the tiring journey, nature will treat visitors with breathtaking scenery, with the majestic three-tiered Xiao Wulai Waterfall.

The best time to visit Taoyuan

The Taoyuan's weather is quote pleasant. Summer here is not too hot and winter is not tool cold. The Taoyuan's peak season is usually between September and December every year. This is the time when there are so many tourists coming to Taoyuan, so the hotel prices will also increase.

Therefore, you should not visit during this time. The most ideal time is probably from January to February every year. At this time, the weather is cool and the air humidity is moderate, so it will be great for visitor's journey to explore Taoyuan.

How to get there

Taoyuan International Airport is located only about 25 minutes by care from the city center. The fastest way to get this city is by plane. You can get to city center from Taoyuan Airport by taxi, bus, or train.

If you want to travel to Taoyuan from other cities in Taiwan such as Taipei, Kaohsiung, Tainan, or Taichung, you can go by train. Most trains will stop at two statons in Taoyuan city: Taoyuan statuon and Jhongli Station.

Although not famous as other Taiwan's big cities, it is still worthy of being a destination not to be missed when travelling to Taiwan.
